Panama is located in Middle America bordering both the Caribbean Sea and the North Pacific Ocean between Colombia and Costa Rica. The country is strategically located on the eastern end if isthmus forming land bridge connecting North and South America. Panama city is the capital.
Panama Attractions
The Old City (Casco Viejo) – the charming old community churches, pedestrian walkways and historical plazas and palaces make it a must see for nay tourists.
Canal de Panama – the canal is operating since 1914 is considered as one of the wonders of the world with fifty-mile waterway transports ships by raising them from sea levels to more than 85 feet via a series of gravity-powered locks.
Metropolitan National Park – is located 15 miles from downtown Panama City and this park features two hiking paths called el Charco in Gamboa and Pipeline Road both known for excellent birding and wildlife viewing.
Amador Causeway – is located at the southern entrance of the Panama Canal and stretching nearly 3kms into the Pacific Ocean. The popular causeway features many tourist related venues and activities including hotels, restaurants and jogging trails.
Gatun Lake – the world’s largest man made lake after the Lake Mead and it forms the central part of the Panama Canal.
Panama Interoceanic Canal Museum – the museum was opened in 1997 and exhibits the chronicles of planning, construction and present day operations of Panama’s landmark canal.
Bridge of the Americans – the bridge spanning the Pacific entrance to the Panama Canal is the five thousand foot long arch bridge connecting both North and South America. The bridge also serves as an important part of the Inter American Highway.
Vasco Nunez de Balboa Park – the park was built to pay tribute to the Spanish adventurer Vasco Nunez de Balboa and features a statue that depicts the explorer holding a Spanish flag in one hand and a sword in the other.
Metropolitan Cathedral – the cathedral was built between 1688-1796 is a magnificent example of the religious colonial architecture of Panama.
Fort San Lorenzo – king Phillip II ordered the fortress to be built in 1595 is located on the Charges River commanding a view of the mouth of the river and miles out to sea.
