
About Morocco
Kingdom of Morocco is the official name and located in northwestern Africa with coasts on the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, bordering Algeria in the east and Mauritania in the south. The capital of Morocco is Rabat, which is the largest city in Casablanca. In 1912 to 1956 Morocco was divided into French and Spanish protectorates since 1979 Morocco has occupied the adjacent region known as Western Sahara.
Morocco Attractions
Fez – Islamic site or artifacts collection city with significant attractions is also listed in UNESCO World Heritage Site is the most mystical of Morocco’s imperial cities. The Moroccan ruler saint Moulay Idris II founded Fez city in 808 AD and the city became the capital and spiritual center of Morocco. It is located in a narrow valley against the backdrop of the Middle Atlas and positioned on the old crossroads of Caravan route connecting the Saharan empire like TimbUKtu and Takrur with the Atlantic and the Mediterranean shipping lanes.
Koutoubia – is the tallest and most famous landmark in Marrakesh, it is visible for miles in any direction. The monument houses the oldest and best preserved of the three most famous minarets.
Marrakech – the area prior to the establishment of the city was notorious for highwaymen and regardless of the origins of the word, Marrakech gave its name to the whole country of Morocco. All these names come from the Latin ‘Morroch’, which derives from the medieval name for Marrakech.
Ait Benhaddaou – the castle stands in the center of a field of almond trees and its beauty has often been used as a setting for films such as Lawrence of Arabia. The castle is listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Rabat – located in the middle of Morocco’s Atlantic coastline on the left bank of the mouth of Bou Regreg River is also the political and administrative capital and the official residence of the king. Apart from all ministries and embassies location, Rabat is also one of country’s main industrial centers.
Chefchaounen – being one of the most pleasant towns it is also a holy city with 20 mosques and sanctuaries where thousands of people participate in a pilgrimage each year. The city was founded in 1471 and is known for bright low houses.
Sidi Mohamed ben Abdallah Museum – is located in the former residence of a pasha and houses regional art, fascinating ethnographical collections and a history of local musical traditions. The museum includes documents on Berber songs and stringed instruments decorated with marquetry, which Gnaouas musicians use to accompany their dances.
Gorges of the Sebou – the gorges of the Sebou offers a fabulous vista of Fes, the Rif, the Middle Atlas and the Gorges themselves in the red coloured limestone.
